Presentation of the Chair

The MMB Chair's goal is to develop a synergy between Applied Mathematics and Ecology, and especially biodiversity. The chair's activities are focused on research and training, aiming at promoting and popularizing results. Its originality lies in the multidisciplinary approach of ecosystems modelling, in order to provide answers to questions arising from ecological studies. Typical issues are ecological niches, adaptive evolution, spatial colonization, analysis of the dynamics of communities and building biodiversity scenarios. This approach requires the creation of relevant, rigorous, and innovative mathematics. In particular, one purpose is to develop new probabilistic models of evolution, that provide better integration of ecological interactions and of various ecosystem's scales, and allow to perform predictions. These problems are also motivated by statistical applications: parameters calibration, species monitoring, genes networks...
