The Born-Infeld Theory of Electromagnetism, from Extremal
Surfaces to Magnetohydrodynamics
|
In 1934, Born and Infeld designed a nonlinear version of the Maxwell
equations. The Born-Infeld equations enjoy
remarkable mathematical features and have received a renewed interest
among high energy physicists. We discuss their link with
extremal surfaces in one side, and Magnetohydrodynamics in the
other side.
