We present a large class of one-dimensional variational problems of the Calculus of Variations that do not exhibit the Lavrentiev phenomenon; we deal also with a multi-dimensional problem and Lagrangians depending on the higher-order derivatives. We show that a further phenomenon comes with the Lavrentiev phenomenon.
