A Derandomized Approach to Self Adaptation of Evolution Strategies Andreas Ostermeier, Andreas Gawelczyk, Nikolaus Hansen Technische Universit„t Berlin Fachgebiet Bionik und Evolutionstechnik Ackerstraže 71-76 (ACK1), D-13355 Berlin This report shows up some characteristics in the concept of mutative step-size control within the Evolution Strategy (ES) that are of major importance for the poor adaptation of individual step-sizes. These weak points can be avoided by relatively small changes of the algorithm. The modified concept of mutative step-size control enables an efficient and reliable adaptation of individual step-sizes (problem-scaling). Furthermore the adaptation concept developed is applied to an ES with correlated mutations. The algorithm presented proves that again the adaptation process can be controlled effectively in a similar way as concerning the individual step-sizes. Comments and questions are welcome.
